Facility overview

A working aerosol laboratory in Overland Park

ARE Labs operates from a 15,000 sq ft facility in Overland Park, Kansas, organized into seven dedicated lab sections that cover the full spectrum of aerosol sciences: aerobiology, pharmaceutical chemistry, genomics, particle sizing and plume geometry, a versatile open lab area, an in-house Custom Build Shop, and inhalation.

Biological aerosol work is conducted in BSL-2 facilities. The facility is described as physical evidence of the company profile rather than as a routing page; it shows where and how studies are run.

Lab walkthrough

Seven lab areas, one study path

The page should feel like moving through the building, not browsing a card directory. Each area below explains what happens there and why it matters to a study record.

01

Aerobiology laboratories

Biological aerosol testing and research, including challenge aerosols, recovery, and sampling under BSL-2 practices.

Biosafety cabinets, contained aerosol paths, viable samplers, impingers, filters, incubators, and sterilization support.

Shows that bioaerosol work is handled inside controlled laboratory space, not treated as a generic air-testing add-on.

02

Pharmaceutical chemistry lab

Chemical analysis and formulation support for aerosol, nasal, dry-powder, and inhalation products.

HPLC, FTIR/GC, UV, fluorescence, formulation tools, stability equipment, and sample preparation space.

Connects formulation choices and analytical records to the same aerosol or device question.

03

Genomic lab

Genetic analysis for biological aerosol questions where organism identity or nucleic-acid detection matters.

Applied Biosystems QuantStudio ddPCR and supporting bench workflow for sample preparation and detection.

Makes biological detection capability visible without turning the page into a list of organisms or assays.

04

Particle sizing and plume geometry lab

Physical aerosol characterization: particle size, concentration, spray pattern, and plume geometry.

APS, FMPS, OPS, Spraytec, MasterSizer, cascade impactors, line-laser plume geometry, and high-speed imaging.

Shows buyers where sizing, imaging, and device-actuation observations enter the study record.

05

Open lab area

Flexible floor space for aerosol setups that need room, reconfiguration, ducting, chambers, or instrument staging.

Moveable fixtures, sampling paths, chamber access, aerosol generation, and study-specific instrument placement.

Explains how custom programs fit inside the facility instead of being forced into fixed bench workflows.

06

Custom Build Shop

In-house design and fabrication of bespoke test systems, adapters, enclosures, fixtures, and chambers.

CFD/FEA workstation, Ansys Fluent, SolidEdge CAD, 3D printing, and build-shop fabrication support.

Makes the build capability part of the lab tour rather than another service-card claim.

07

Inhalation

Exposure-system and in-vitro inhalation work where chamber setup, flow paths, breathing simulation, or device context matter.

Nose-only systems, whole-body chambers, ventilated mannequins, dry-powder feeders, plethysmography, and breathing simulation tools.

Shows how inhalation studies connect physical setup, aerosol delivery, and documented exposure conditions.

Equipment map

Equipment grouped by study function

Instead of three stacked tables, the rendered page groups equipment by the kind of study evidence it supports. The result is still specific enough for technical buyers, but easier to scan.

Sizing

Particle sizing and concentration

TSI APS 3321, DPS 3603, FMPS 3091, Optical Particle Sizer, Malvern MasterSizer, and Malvern Spraytec.

Study use: Particle-size and concentration evidence for aerosols, sprays, and device outputs.

Custom Build Shop

Building the setup around the question

When a question does not fit a stock method, the in-house Custom Build Shop designs and builds the apparatus the study needs: custom fixtures, adapters, sampling ports, aerosol generation paths, chambers, duct sections, enclosure controls, timing triggers, and instrument placement. A CFD/FEA workstation, Ansys Fluent, SolidEdge CAD, and a 3D printer support that work.

The goal is to make the test condition measurable and repeatable enough for the study decision, with limits and assumptions documented in the report. Custom setup capability is part of how the laboratory works, not a separate service catalog.
