Company Overview & History

Aerosol Research and Engineering Labs began as an independent aerosol science company in March 2009, opening with general aerosol and bioaerosol testing. Pharmaceutical, inhalation, and genomic work were added as the laboratory developed.

The company expanded into pharmaceutical testing in 2011, added inhalation services in 2018, and re-entered inhalation testing in 2024 after a facility-limited pause. Across that growth, the company identity stayed practical: define the question, control the aerosol or spray condition, select suitable measurements, document the method, and report findings within the limits of the protocol.

The mission is to help clients answer aerosol, spray, inhalation, formulation, and bioaerosol questions with methods that fit the decision at hand. ARE Labs holds to three values across that work: partnership with the client team, innovation in how a study is approached, and integrity in what the records actually show.

Growth has been deliberate and phased — new disciplines were added once the facility, equipment, and staff could support them well, rather than all at once. The operating model favors programs that need aerosol science judgment, laboratory execution, and a clear report over a generic checklist, with technical clarity, careful documentation, and realistic claim boundaries throughout.

Many aerosol questions do not fit a stock method, so custom study design is part of how the company works rather than a separate offering. The in-house Custom Build Shop lets ARE Labs design and build bespoke test systems, and custom work starts by separating the decision the client needs from the physical constraints of the aerosol, product, organism, material, or device.

From there, ARE Labs can scope protocols, fixtures, enclosures, sampling layouts, and test systems around the question being asked, keeping protocol claims tied to documented methods and records rather than promises about agency review.

A program that combines particle sizing, spray geometry, formulation, biological aerosols, and inhalation can draw on those disciplines within ARE Labs' Overland Park facility.

The in-house Custom Build Shop develops apparatus for studies that need a custom setup. ARE Labs brings 17 years (since March 2009) of aerosol science work to method selection, execution, and interpretation.
